We offer a confidential service which means we wont tell anyone else what you say, the only time this may happen is if we think you may be at risk, even then we will always try to get your consent first.

Smoking Cessation

We can provide you with help and advice on quitting smoking; this can be with information leaflets or things like nicotine patches or gum. If you are under 18 years of age we can refer you to one of our specialist smoking cessastion advisors.

Spots and Acne

Most young people get spots, and they do always seem to break out when you really dont want them to. They are caused by your glands producing too much sebum - a substance that your body produces naturally to stop your hair drying out. Too much sebum makes your skin oily and causes spots. Antibacterial face washes and creams can help, and its important you try not to squeeze as this can make the spots worse.

Acne is different from getting a few spots. It can appear on your back, shoulders and chest as well as your face and can sometimes be painful and cause you to feel self conscious or embarressed. Acne usually needs treatment with products only available on prescription, if you are finding your spots a problem come along and discuss with a doctor or our Nurse Practitioner.

Sexual Health

Chlamydia is the most common bacterial infection sexually transmitted infection (STI) at least on in ten young people who are having sex will have chlamydia. Most people have no symptoms so are not aware they have got it. If you have ever had sex we can do a test from a urine sample (pee into a pot) Treatment is free and simple, a short course of antibiotics. If you would like a test please speak to the nurse or ask at reception for a test kit.

Contraception is free to all men and women of all ages. There are many different methods of contracption and differnet methods will suit people at different times of their lives. If you want to talk about this or any other sexual health issue make an appointment with a nurse or doctor, you do not have to tell the receptionist why you want the appointment.

Confidentiality Policy for Patients under 18 years of age

·          The Practice recognises that the principles of confidentiality apply equally to all patients, irrespective of age.

·          The Practice will ensure that its staff recognise that all patients under 18 are entitled to the same level of confidentiality as all other patients, including being respectful of any request to withhold information from their parents or guardians and take all necessary steps to ensure that this right of confidentiality is not inadvertently breached.

·          Where a young person requests a consultation at the Practice premises, they will be booked in to see a clinician in the normal way.

·          In the event that a young person attends the surgery without a pre-booked consultation and without adult support, the normal procedure for providing them with a consultation appointment will take place.

·          Should the young person independently request medical advice or treatment (including  contraceptive advice, abortion, other treatments and surgical procedures), the Practice clinician involved in the consultation with the young person will determine their competency and capability to understand the choices of treatment available and the consequences of such treatment.

·          When such competency and capability is deemed to exist, the Practice clinician will provide appropriate medical advice or initiate suitable treatment.

To register with the surgery

There are a couple of ways to register with the surgery.

Register online

We are using a new online service called Register with a GP Surgery that makes it easier to register with this GP surgery.

Just fill in the quick online form to start the process. You don't need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number.

The service is designed and run by the NHS, so your personal information is safe. It cuts our administrative workload and makes it easier for you to register.

Alternatively you can download and print off a registration form, fill it out and bring it in with you on your first visit to the practice.

Temporary Registration

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.
